As you play Events will occur when their prerequisites occur. There are a lot of events in game. Not all events produce positive or negative outcomes. Events can range from finding unique Anomalies to meeting new Civilizations. Some events will have consequences so it's always a best idea to choose wisely and weigh out potential consequences.
